The book presents the history and topography of the city-state of Athens from 1050 B.C., which is considered the beginning of historical times, until the 3rd/4th centuries A.D., which is considered their end.
In writing the history, topographical, epigraphic, and archaeological data are taken into account, as well as the great works of ancient Greek art that were created in Athens during the aforementioned period.
In addition to the city, the archaeological data of the municipalities of Attica are also presented, which constituted a vital area of the city-state as well as the functioning of the political system. Special emphasis is given to the large municipality of Piraeus, which, as the primary port of the city, played an important role in the economy as well as in the overall history of Athens.
An appendix with plans, models, and restorations of the monuments makes the texts more educational and enriches the illustrations.
