The book "The Immunity Triad" offers an important historical lesson about how the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization were distorted and deviated from their original mission framework to serve the interests of multinational globalization.
The policies coordinated by these international institutions, which seemingly attempt to write off Third World debts and lead to the "immediate termination of poverty," have the opposite result, namely participation in a global economy plagued by unbearable levels of debt and, if nothing else, constantly worsening over-indebtedness and uncertainty. The book examines the destabilization of a collapsing ideological hegemony in times of intensifying crisis and proposes alternative principles that could guide a revitalized movement towards global justice.
The book critically examines three institutions of global governance: the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank, and the World Trade Organization (WTO). All three institutions play roles radically different from those originally agreed upon in their respective founding charters. In fact, a change in attitude towards governance is inevitable because at the core of the current political regime, there is a contradiction that constantly threatens to cause serious rifts in its hegemonic order. And all three institutions manage an economy that their neoliberal ideology insists should remain deliberately uncontrolled. This contradictory position leaves global governance open to diverse but intense criticism.
