Who else admonishes the individual besides the law? Well, "naturally," it is death, the mortality of the subject. The development of the capitalist mode of production has created a subject that has internalized the anxiety of personal death. With the establishment of commodity society, a perception of the personal solitude of death is simultaneously established, along with a culture in which collective myths collapse.
Death has been secularized within material production and is reproduced in an extended manner like capital. Death is no longer inscribed through a ritual acceptance of it, but we experience it as something that is inscribed in our bodies.
It is no coincidence that capitalism was established through death, through ethnic cleansings, genocides, colonialism, apartheid, the atomic bomb, the destruction of the natural world, but also through its greatest "achievement," the industrialized death in Nazism. Capitalism is not only a system of economic exploitation and oppression but also a system of general social bankruptcy because "its sole goal is the tautological accumulation of dead labor. Therefore, it is structurally indifferent to any content." For this very reason, it must be prevented from dragging down with it, to its grave, all of humanity.
Dimitris Halatsis was born in Karditsa in 1969. From 1995 to 1997, he attended the School of Painting, Sculpture, and Theater in Neuss Düsseldorf, Germany. From 1997 to 2002, he studied Painting at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, Germany, and in the year 2002–2003, he completed his studies as Meisterschüler at the same Academy. In 2001, along with a group of artists, he founded the artist gallery Poly Produzentengalerie in Karlsruhe.
In the years 2003 and 2006, he received scholarships from the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe. He was a member of the Reconstruction Community group and a founding member of the Libby Sacer Foundation group. He has curated and organized eight contemporary art exhibitions in Greece and abroad. As an artist, he has held eight solo exhibitions and has participated in over fifty group exhibitions in various venues in Greece and abroad. He lives and works in Athens.
