Description

That summer, in the remote field of our small town, along with the itinerants and their Luna Park, came Ali. The Luna Park also had a carousel, which we dreamed of even when we were awake. Ali had nothing - but we would learn that later. What we knew then was that she was different and, as the adults told us, we should fear and avoid her. That's why they gave us a handkerchief to put on her to make her stand out. Until we discovered that Ali could do magic... A story about prejudice, racism, but also the Holocaust of the Roma. About the narrow-mindedness of adults and the cruelty yet sensitivity of children. Above all, however, the story of a true, generous friendship and a magical summer... Rich educational material is available for the book.

That summer, in the remote vacant lot of our small town, along with the traveling performers and their Luna Park, Ali arrived as well. The Luna Park had a Ferris wheel, targets, rubber duck fishing, cotton candy and candied apples, and of course, a carousel with horses, lights, mirrors, and music. Ali had nothing. Not even parents – but that was something we would only find out much later. The Luna Park, even though it was old and its colors had faded, was, for us, the most beautiful, colorful, and fun thing that could come to our dreary and harsh town that sad summer. Sometimes, Ali seemed even more melancholic than the gloominess of the town. And at other times, even more fun than the Luna Park – but that too we would only discover later.
