Description

1st edition: June 2021

The Spanish Revolution was a unique and solitary uprising against capital and the bourgeois landowners, primarily realized by industrial workers, agricultural laborers, and small independent farmers. With a mainly anarchist and not Marxist ideological stance, it brought to the forefront the same political and social issues as the Russian Revolution. It surpassed the latter in the field of "bottom-up" social experimentation and a relatively lasting and inventive model of self-management of production as well as the entire social life, especially in 1936-1937.

The Spanish Revolution was a continuous insurrectionary process that began in the late 19th century and triggered three successive civil wars. Its power led to the counter-revolutionary coup and the Major Civil War of the period 1936-1939, which ultimately suffocated and suppressed it.

While the Spanish Republic was not alone (International Brigades, Soviet support, etc.), the Revolution was absolutely alone. Both nationalist and fascist forces as well as a large part of the democratic and leftist forces, both inside and outside the country, sought to suffocate it, and they succeeded. A portion of the anarchists, the POUM led by Andrés Nin, and some left-wing socialists defended it.

If one great pole of the tragedy and grandeur of revolution in 20th century Europe was Russia, the other was Spain. If in Russia it was the "hour of truth" for Marxism, in Spain it was the "hour of truth" for anarchism.

This book is dedicated to the fighters of the Spanish Revolution, who stood against the whole world turned against them.
