The Modern Age publishes this collection of articles by Friedrich Engels and dedicates it to the 190th anniversary of his birth.
The common thread that runs through all the articles included in this edition is the assessment of the economic developments of the last decade of the first half and almost the entire second half of the 19th century, and their reflection on the political level, on the political aspirations of various classes, on class struggle, and the ideological-political struggle of the time.
These articles address many contemporary issues related to the capitalist economic crisis (with particular emphasis on the relationship between overproduction and speculation), competition and interdependence among capitalist states, the emergence of the joint-stock company and the corresponding parasitism of the bourgeoisie, protectionism and free trade as forms of bourgeois economic management, agricultural economy, the creation of the labor aristocracy, as well as strategic issues of the international labor movement, such as those arising from the torturous path of forming labor parties in each individual state, the struggle for the program and the politics of these parties under the conditions of the 19th century.
