Description

Description

The two Freudian texts in this collection are among the writings considered to pertain to psychoanalytic technique. However, Freud's technical writings primarily relate to a psychoanalytic method invented by Freud himself, mainly as a method for understanding the human unconscious psyche, and include some basic principles that are relatively general and abstract, discouraging the notion of a technique over which we have complete control.

The first text constitutes a more theoretical examination of the phenomenon of transference, which Freud discovered as early as 1895, but he did not cease to deepen its significance within the context of psychoanalytic method. The central issue that 'haunted' Freud was that transference, which in other cases constitutes a strong lever of success, often turns into the strongest means of resistance. The article demonstrates Freud's effort to mitigate this disadvantage, not by resorting to some practical solutions but by understanding transference and making it analyzable.

To this end, he formulates for the first time a series of propositions that today form the background of the clinical thought of psychoanalysts. In the second text, the phenomenon of transferential love appears as an illustration of the aforementioned question: how transference as a lever of therapy can turn into an obstacle. What appears in the most acute way is that the path of analysis and 'the analyst is different and does not have a model in real life.' Transferential love presents a challenge to the analyst, as the acceptance of the patient's erotic demand 'is as fatal for the analysis as its suppression.'
