The Book of Psalms is among the most well-known and beloved texts of biblical literature. All other books of the Scripture are read in fragments during Church services. However, the Book of Psalms is read in its entirety and repeatedly.
The Psalms, as poetic texts, are distinguished by their unique expressiveness, depth, vivid imagery, and penetrating insight. They are a spontaneous language of communication with God, often offering praise, but at times also making requests, confessing, reflecting, or encouraging self-criticism. This is why the Psalter has been loved throughout the world and across all ages, as it speaks to all people.
In this edition of the "Psalter," the text of the edition was based on the work of the late professor of the Theological School of Athens, Panagiotis Bratsiotis, and it is still in circulation with the approval of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece. With the publication of this volume, the trilogy of liturgical editions of the Greek Biblical Society is completed, which began with the release of the "Selection," containing texts and translations of the liturgical readings from the New Testament for the entire church year, and continued with the corresponding edition of the "Prophecies" for the extracts from the Old Testament.
