The Book of Psalms is considered one of the most well-known and beloved texts of biblical literature. While all other books of Scripture are read in the Church in excerpts, the Book of Psalms is read in its entirety and repeatedly.
The Psalms, as poetic texts, are distinguished by their unique expressiveness, depth, vividness, and insightfulness. They are a spontaneous language of communication with God, which more often praises, sometimes petitions, confesses, contemplates, or encourages self-criticism.
This is why the Psalter has been loved throughout the world and across all times, as it speaks to all people. In the present edition of the "Psalter," the text is based on the edition prepared by the late professor of the Theological School of Athens, Panagiotis Bratsiotis, which is still in circulation with the approval of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece.
With the publication of this volume, the trilogy of liturgical editions of the Greek Biblical Society is completed, which began with the release of the "Selection," which includes the text and translation of the liturgical readings from the New Testament for the entire ecclesiastical year, and continued with the corresponding edition of the "Prophetology" for the excerpts from the Old Testament.
