Description

Description

Did we humans fall into a trap 12,000 years ago from which we could never escape?

Sapiens: A Graphic History - The Pillars of Civilization tells how Homo sapiens transformed from nomads to settlers and began to work more and more, yet without securing a better life. Learn how wheat became the ruler of the world; how an unlikely marriage between a god and a bureaucrat created the first empires; how war, famine, disease, and inequality became part of the human condition; and why we might be solely to blame for all of this.

Sounds somewhat unpleasant? Not with the multitude of entertaining characters who continue the narrative started in the first volume. Yuval, Zoe, Professor Saraswati, Cindy and Bill, Officer Lopez, and Dr. Fantasy travel the lengths and breadths of human history, this time to discover how the Agricultural Revolution forever changed society. The cunning Mephistopheles shows them how to trap people with plants, King Hammurabi creates laws, and Confucius explains what a harmonious society is.

Guest-starring Thomas Jefferson, Scarlett O'Hara, Margaret Thatcher, and John Lennon. The origins of modern agriculture are presented in the form of an Elizabethan tragedy, the fate of domesticated plants and animals through the columns of the Daily Entrepreneur, and the history of inequality becomes the investigation of a superhero detective story.

  • Was it easy to read?
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I liked the writing style
  • I would read a book by the same author
  • I would recommend it for reading
  • An ideal choice if you want the essence of the book in a much more digestible and easy-to-read version. Particularly imaginative illustration.

This review is about the add to your collection: Vol. 1: The Birth of Man

I have read all 3 books by Harari and now I got the illustrated edition. What can I say, I simply feel lucky that in our era we have such an intellectual. Truly, as it was written in a comment above, he changes the way you think. Very good illustrations, it is great that we have popularized science and now science in comics.

This review is about the add to your collection: Vol. 1: The Birth of Man

I am 18 years old, I read sapiens when I was in high school and it seemed to me one of the best books I have ever read (although I was quite young at the time and had read many non-fiction books). It is one of those books that change your way of thinking. Of course, I don't know if I would have read the regular book before this period, and the reason I got it and read it was because of a reference in a podcast I was listening to at the time (the feta report, which is about books, technology, and life abroad). Now, the illustrated comic format was really awesome, although I would have preferred a slightly more naturalistic design and less cold colors in some parts. I believe it is a tremendous gift for a teenager, especially in middle school and high school, for people who are a little bored with reading, and surely the person you give it to will remember you for a long time.. That is the only thing for sure!
