Description

On a distant island, the members of a secret brotherhood of superstitious believers think that black cats bring bad luck and decide to exterminate them with poisons, traps, and a thousand and one inhumane ways. Soon they have almost achieved their goal. Only one black cat remains alive. The members of the brotherhood are determined to find it and kill it. But the cat is also determined to survive. This is the story of a ruthless persecution, a desperate love, a bitter betrayal - this is the story of the last black cat. "The Last Black Cat": a novel by the "poet of fairy tales" Eugene Trivizas, which captivates from the first page and maintains the reader’s interest intact, an exciting adventure that combines lyricism with humor, emotion with mystery, despair with hope, a sharp indictment against racism, xenophobia, and superstition. WRITTEN ABOUT THE BOOK "An evocative myth that explores the descent of a nation into the depths of murderous fanaticism. A story that warms the hearts..." (Elaine Williams, "Times Educational Supplement") "The dynamics of racism and the moral duty to resist it have rarely been rendered in such an engaging way. The Last Black Cat resembles an allegory of Albert Camus for a younger audience." (Boyd Tonkin, Literary editor, "The Independent") "Trivizas’s light, beautiful, and entertaining book is undoubtedly a parable-book. It is a mirror-book. Intrigue and love story. Friendship and betrayal. Wonderful and wretched characters. The book carries an aura of the sea, longing, even the smell of fresh fish. Because above all, the Greek Eugene Trivizas is not a philosopher, nor a preacher, he is simply a poet." (www.livelib.ru/book) "Intolerance, scapegoating, and the greed of corporate financial interests are wonderfully satirized." (Gary Mc Keone, Literary Editor, "Arts Council", England) "An amazing novel." (G. Zoumboulakis, "To Vima") "A story of heroic resistance to superstitions, prejudices, and racial discrimination. The author steals the hearts of young readers with his heroes and language." (Mutfak Banyo Seramik) "The novel reveals an entire world, the modern world with its mechanizations, its callousness, its lack of democracy, its absence of vision, ultimately its every kind of racism." (Yannis S. Papadatos, "Diavazo") "Eugene Trivizas declares war on superstitions, prejudices, and racial discrimination..." (Haftalik Dergisi) "Black, like its quadruped protagonists, a requiem for the total madness of racism and intolerance." ("To Pontiki") "Complete enjoyment! You can't fathom it! I didn’t expect such depth from a story about cats." (http://novostiliteratury.ru) "A highly captivating fantasy and mystery adventure." ("Bookseller") "Trivizas is experienced and smart enough not to fall into the trap of didacticism and moralizing. The Last Black Cat is read with suspense and interest until its last page." (Radikal Kitap) "Considering the proportions and scales, 'The Last Black Cat' could be compared to the famous 'Animal Farm'. Both books, each in its own way, have managed to bring to light the painful truths of the times." (Antonis Xagas, mic) "This highly subversive novel for children (and not only) by Eugene Trivizas enters the schools of Israel." (G. Baskozos, "To Vima") A good book, wonderful, you could say. Reading it, you feel a pair of bright, green cat eyes watching you. Such stories you will remember for a long time. www.livelib.ru/book

Trivizas has marked my childhood. My mom read me countless books of his and I adored him like an unseen relative from Eggfryistan who sent me gifts.

‍⬛This book is a novel, not so much a "fairy tale" as an "accusation" against racism and xenophobia that deserves to be read by everyone!

I would not recommend it for any child as I, as an adult, was shocked by the descriptions of raw violence against defenseless animals and could not continue reading until the end.. if this book is considered "children's" with symbolic -educational content about racism, etc., in my humble opinion, we have lost all measure and we are playing with fire by giving our children a book that disturbs their sensitive soul.. I wonder..

It is an excellent book with the characteristic writing of my beloved author. I would not recommend it for children under the age of 12 or 14, as it contains quite descriptive violent scenes. However, it is an exceptional read as a gift for anyone who has lost their humanity or has been nurtured to "hide" it. Especially for us Greeks, who, unfortunately, I realize, are an extremely inhospitable and xenophobic people.

I had read it before when I was little. One of my favorite books and definitely a gem in my library. It has harsh descriptions of violence at certain points, but if you think about it, it sends a strong message against racism. It couldn't not have such descriptions. I plan on reading it together with my daughter when she grows up and in this way, explain to her how bad racism and discrimination are.

A allegorical fairy tale that presents and challenges the reader with the problems of this era and all times. Harsh, moving, realistic, excellent!

A book for +15 years old that bluntly explains how sad it is not to accept diversity. I gave it a 4 out of 5 because I got a little tired of its writing style. Otherwise, very good.

I would give it 4 out of 5 stars if it wasn't in "children's" books, because it is well-written like all books by the same author. But for a children's book, it is unacceptable to describe scenes of raw violence and barbarism against defenseless animal protagonists. My child was psychologically traumatized reading it. The animals are tortured and die one by one, and moreover, with gruesome methods. I consider the point where the grandmothers in the playground stuck knitting needles in the eyes of the cats to be a sadistic climax.

Incredibly smart book, my daughter enjoyed it and I believe that for every child it is an opportunity to see today's reality in the best way. Choose it for your children or as a gift and read it yourself too!!!!

It is a very interesting book that essentially transports us what already exists in a... feline form.

  • Trivizas has marked my childhood. My mom read me countless books of his and I adored him like an unseen relative from Eggfryistan who sent me gifts.

‍⬛This book is a novel, not so much a "fairy tale" as an "accusation" against racism and xenophobia that deserves to be read by everyone!

  • I would not recommend it for any child as I, as an adult, was shocked by the descriptions of raw violence against defenseless animals and could not continue reading until the end.. if this book is considered "children's" with symbolic -educational content about racism, etc., in my humble opinion, we have lost all measure and we are playing with fire by giving our children a book that disturbs their sensitive soul.. I wonder..

  • It is an excellent book with the characteristic writing of my beloved author.
