Description

Winston Churchill was voted "the greatest personality of Great Britain of all time" in a poll organized by the BBC in 2002, in which more than 1,000,000 viewers participated. However, his life and deeds are little known to the general reading public beyond the boundaries of the Anglo-Saxon world.

He was born into an aristocratic family, enlisted in the Armed Forces, which he later left to pursue writing, as it brought him significant financial benefits early on. He engaged in politics, frequently changing parties. He was a proponent of naval power, served in important ministries, and was known for his antipathy towards the Germans. Some of his decisions proved fatal for the lives of thousands of Armed Forces personnel of the Allied Powers and almost led to his political retirement. Although this did not happen, he was long "haunted" by these events and pushed to the margins of public life, from which he emerged during World War II. Then, he led his country and guided it to victory. Nevertheless, he lost the first post-war elections, although he later returned to the premiership. He passed away enjoying widespread recognition, but today several aspects of his life are being re-evaluated. His interesting and eventful life is described in this book. It is divided into two parts. The first provides a brief account of his life and actions, while the second focuses on his views and decisions that influenced Greek political developments. These played a decisive role in the future of our homeland and led Greeks to expressions of both admiration and hatred towards him, even to this day.
