The Prophet was published in 1923 and is rightly considered Gibran's masterpiece. With influences from Christianity, Sufism, Hinduism, and Theosophy, it focuses on the importance of spiritual love that can connect people, while also being one of the best-selling poetic books of all time.

In The Prophet, as well as in other books of his illustrated with mystical drawings, the deepest urges of the human soul and spirit are expressed, while human communication and coexistence become the main subject of poetic reflection.

The poet himself believed that The Prophet was his most important work. He famously said: "I believe that since I conceived The Prophet on the mountain of Lebanon, I cannot exist without it. It seems to have become a part of myself... I kept the manuscript for four years before I delivered it to my publisher because I wanted to be sure, absolutely sure, that every word is the best I have to offer."

The demand for universal love that permeates Gibran's The Prophet gives it a visionary, as well as tangible aspect. It is a work whose message remains as relevant and necessary today as ever.
