Roides made a life request for deviation from the beaten path, the refusal of convenient compromise, the maintenance of hostility in his relations with the political and cultural powers of his time. His writing accompanied his political, moral, and critical stance towards Greek society.

His life and work affirm the continuous practice of deviation and testify to the unruly behavior of his thought on spiritual matters. His interventions were always timely and combative. His ironic discourse did not limit itself to showcasing wit but became a vehicle for a strong critical revisionism.

The antagonism delineated a public stance of ideological nature, which claimed the right to position itself obliquely against commonplaces. This stance is characteristic of a type of writer who performs better with rupture and thrives under conditions of perpetual crisis, as he perceives the relationship of writing to the world in predominantly moral terms.

Dimitris Dimitroulis has engaged for many years, persistently, with Roides. This book is the culmination of a relationship that has been tested and endured.
