The third volume of the monumental work by Wilhelm Reich, titled "The Discovery of Orgone," has never been released in Greece in its complete form. In its pages, Reich introduces and describes Orgonomic Functionalism, a particular methodology of thought more suitable for approaching the fundamental processes of nature than existing ones.
In the first part, titled "The Ether, God, and the Devil," Reich refers to the central philosophical systems that have prevailed over time, analyzes their impact on humanity and its social environment, and contrasts them with the functional way of thinking used in the science of orgone, orgonomy. The functions of the concepts "God," "Ether," and "Devil" are recognized in relation to the perception of nature, clearly revealing how far humanity has strayed from natural life and suffers.
In the second part, which, like the third, was published only as a series of articles, using examples from both the inanimate and living realms, the principles and methodology of orgonomic functionalism are described, and how it is applied practically and not as an abstract philosophical schema. It explains how we arrive at documented conclusions from seemingly contradictory phenomena, such as mental and physical processes. Here lies the genius of the reasoning, as it manages to combine inanimate and living processes under the same functional laws.
In the third part, he presents the fruit of his reasoning, the "orgoneometric equations," which help us to functionally organize natural phenomena—both living and inanimate—and to track the ways they interconnect and evolve either towards the more specific or the more general, using simple abstract representations that, while reminiscent of mathematics, follow exclusively functional rules.
