Description

With this issue, we complete the fourth year of operation of Kritikes: a philosophical journal that exclusively publishes philosophical book reviews. According to its founding self-definition, the journal aims to serve as a platform for scientific dialogue and philosophical criticism, aiming for a scientifically sound and timely appraisal of the value of recent publications from the field of philosophy, as well as from related disciplines.

The journal remains faithful to its main objective: the de-stigmatization of criticism. We strive for free, fertile, and rigorous evaluation and appraisal of the philosophical work produced in Greece, as well as selected foreign-language publications that attract the interest of the reviewers. The thirteen texts from the 2012 collection are once again indicative of the diversity of Greek philosophical work and publishing output, as well as the interests of the community members who collaborate with the journal as authors.

Five new Greek monographs, two annotated translations of ancient texts, seven translations of philosophical texts from modern languages, and two foreign-language monographs are critically evaluated. The theme of the reviewed works is thus extremely broad: it includes everything from introductory manuals to translations and original specialized studies.

The print edition of the book reviews, apart from serving as a form of practical resistance to the onslaught of electronic discourse, seeks to make the texts accessible to that (not inconsiderable, but increasingly neglected) group of readers who do not have access to electronic means of communication and information.
