This is one of the most publicized cases in the forensic chronicles of the modern Greek state. The case is known as that of the "wicked mother-in-law" or "poor Athanasopoulos" or "the crime at Charokopou" or "the dismembered corpse in Kifisos."
The book "Poor Athanasopoulos?" is a crime non-fiction novella by Tasos Theofilou that deals with the judicial aspect of the murder and dismemberment case of the contractor Mimi Athanasopoulos, with the main accused being Foula Athanasopoulou and her mother Artemis Kastros.
The narrative begins on Tuesday, February 16, 1932, two days before the trial starts, until November 1, 1932, eight months after the death sentence for the two main accused, Foula Athanasopoulou and her mother Artemis Kastros, when the application for clemency is also made.
The narrator is the journalist M. Gorgos, and the story unfolds through the reports he sends for publication to his editor. M. Gorgos is not a real person but a composition of Petros Pikros, E. Thomopoulos, possibly Ven. Zerveas, and other anonymous, novice, or less-known journalists who capture the thrilling everyday life of interwar Greece in real time.
The selection of information and descriptions was not made with terms of academic or research objectivity. The selection was not even made with terms of journalistic objectivity. It was made with the aim of illuminating aspects of a case that, due to institutional misogyny, led to the death penalty and the eternal social disgrace of two innocent women.
