Cajeput, the Latin name Melaleuca Cajuputi, is an evergreen tree from the Myrtaceae family, native to northern Australia, New Guinea, and eastern Indonesia. The Aborigines have long been aware of its healing properties. They used its leaves as a poultice for their analgesic effects.
The essential oil of Cajeput is extracted from the leaves and stems of the plant using steam distillation, and it has a light yellow color and a sweet, herbal, strong aroma reminiscent of camphor.
The Cajeput essential oil helps heal various respiratory conditions, colds, and coughs. It is indicated for urinary tract disorders and also acts as an antiseptic, soothing irritations, serving as an antispasmodic, and having analgesic effects.
Additionally, it is used to balance the oiliness of the skin and to eliminate blemishes and spots. On a psychological level, it helps with concentration and improves mood. It is also antibacterial against Staphylococcus and Enterococcus.
The analgesic effects of the essential oil are appreciated for headaches and toothaches. It is preferred to take the essential oil through rubs, inhalations, or aromatic candles.
