The contribution of Zakynthos to the Revolution of '21 was essential, so much so that without it, it is questionable whether the Struggle would have been justified. A simple approach, such as the one attempted in this book, through historical events, the memoirs of the fighters, and official historical sources, is capable of demonstrating this.

However, it is overlooked because a shadow must fall: In the predatory behavior during the Revolution concerning the loans of England and the properties of the Turks by the notable figures of the period of Turkish rule, who prevailed even after the Liberation and constituted the political elite and the cream of society. In the two Civil Wars for the control of power and money. In the unwavering support of Zakynthos, in supplies, warriors, admonitions, hospitality, and mediation in the courts of the powerful in Europe.

In the contribution of International Freemasonry, very different from today, and of Dionysios Roma, mainly in the role of the informal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the rebels. In the fact that Zakynthos and the Ionian Islands did not share the nationalistic Great Idea, which led to the Minor Asia Catastrophe, but advocated patriotism, social justice, and development in the new State.

As if that were not enough, the Ionian Islands and their culture were treated by the post-revolutionary Greek state as a foreign body, Francophone, and as such were isolated and left to cultural decay. They could not understand how they were destroying a part of Hellenism, of the Greek nation with a different historical evolution. They were unable to benefit from the superiority of Ionian culture.

A nominative list with biographies of Zakynthian fighters of 1821 is provided.
