Every new translation of a classic work necessarily entails a new translational approach. Thus, although The Trial has already been translated several times into Greek, we believe that the new translation by Ioanna Avramidou that we present in this edition is of exceptional importance for text-centered reasons.
Furthermore, this new translation of The Trial follows the relatively recent revised German version, which, in relation to the other versions available in Greek as well as in other languages, differs in terms of the order of the chapters of this unfinished novel, which was determined by Max Brod. Agreeing with the German editors, we find that the newly slightly modified structure that has emerged serves Kafka's narrative better.
As an appendix, we have included unfinished chapters found in Kafka's manuscripts, which Brod had completely omitted, and which allow the reader to delve deeper into the author's workshop.
