They could no longer endure the stillness and silence of a archived photographic testimony that was passed down as a family heirloom from generation to generation and transferred from house to house, from library to library.

The time has come for them to tell their story. It is the story of a generation marked by national division, enthusiasm and tragedy, displacement and re-creation. A century later, it is time for these photographs to declare that division is the source of national woes. In difficult times again, we must listen to them carefully."
