Description

Description

In the first two "books" of his main work, Schopenhauer presented his epistemology with the first view of the world as representation and his metaphysics with the first view of the world as will, thus laying the foundations for the corresponding second views, with which he now presents both his aesthetic theory and his doctrine regarding human life in general (pessimism, theory of law, ethics, and soteriology).

With this, the systematic part of his philosophy is essentially completed. The "books" included in this second volume are those that established the great reputation of the work, left an indelible mark on the spirit and work of many creators, and made Schopenhauer's own philosophy known to a wider audience.

The occasionally elusive analyses of the first two books are now followed by equally profound reflections on art in general and the individual arts, on the nature and meaning of human life, on freedom and justice, on ethics and the redemption from the ills and pain of existence.

With this volume, the publication of the four main chapters ("books") of the first and systematic part of The World as Will and Representation is completed. From this part, only the Appendix with the extensive critique of Kantian doctrine remains, which will be published soon in a separate volume, the third and final of part A.

Subsequently, the publication of part B of the work is also planned, in 3 volumes. Thus, this famous work, which had such a profound impact on philosophical thought, art, and science in the 19th and 20th centuries, will be available to the Greek reader for the first time in complete form, as well as with all the necessary (introduction, comments, afterword, indexes, bibliography) for its substantial understanding.
