Classic Pressfield, a very nice book worthy of the author's name. Personally, I have read all of Pressfield's books, so with this particular one, it started off very strong, keeping expectations high, but as I approached the middle of the book, my initially very positive impression began to moderate. However, as it turned out, the author worked his magic once again; the last part of the book is a firework of action and emotion! I highly recommend it!

I have no words... Simply captivating... It has suspense throughout, along with amazing historical descriptions of the period it covers, keeping the interest undiminished and connecting them excellently with the plot... Very nice writing, a classic value of Mr. Pressfield... One of the best books I have ever read...

Description & Specifications

Jerusalem and the desert of Sinai, 1st century A.D. In the tumultuous aftermath of Jesus' crucifixion, officials of the Roman Empire learn of a pilgrim carrying an incendiary letter from a religious fanatic to rebels in Corinth. Its contents could destroy the Roman structure.

The Romans hire a former legionnaire, the solitary warrior Telamon from Arcadia, to capture the pilgrim before he delivers the letter. Telamon follows a dark personal code, where there is no room for noble purposes and ideals. He will, therefore, capture the bearer of the letter. And then something will happen that neither he nor the empire could have anticipated...

Steven Pressfield delivers the gripping story of an unwilling hero in a Roman Empire tested during the early years of a new religion that will change the world.

“Steven Pressfield brings to life the unwavering dedication of the warrior and his total commitment to his purpose. With a dynamic and awakening narrative, The Mercenary will stay in your mind for a long time.” Jim Mattis, retired general, U.S. Marine Corps and former Secretary of Defense

“A great warrior comes face to face with the one thing that could change him: a little girl, with a heart full of hope and humanity. Pressfield's best book.” Jim Gant, author of One Tribe at a Time

“Incredible book. Pressfield has worked his magic again.” Ryan Holiday
