Description

The story features a nautical pamphlet and travels for two decades, transporting sea-devoured men and sea-devoured women through the significant or insignificant voyages of life, from Surabaya to the cherry orchards of Andros, from the generals and ocean liners to the golden beach of Neimboriou and to the melancholy exercises of a group of girls, from a tomato pilaf in Buenos Aires to the faithful lard tongues hanging from the mouth of Mouraina, and from the Allied convoys during the Second World War in Riva and the white two-story building of Saltafers with its stingy ceiling, which dripped the sounds of the upper house and along with them, the sounds of love in the identical lower house, twenty-four thin cypress boards that ruined lives.

“A high-quality narrative that is read with immense pleasure.” Giannis Tsialis, To Vima

“Ioanna Karystiani has written a shocking, unique, and above all, incredibly powerful book against criticism.” Christos Papageorgiou, I Avgi

“The oceans of the world remain small compared to our inner seas.” Pantelis Boukalas, I Kathiimerini

“Excellent writing, with shades of great sensitivity and a maritime language.” Eleni Gika, Ethnos

This review is about the book: Novel

It was a very nice book, I particularly liked the maritime language it contains. Some people might be bothered by the profanity, but it didn't bother me, I have read worse. The subject it deals with is quite common, but in this case, it was nicely written. The only negative thing in my opinion that deprived the book of five stars is the fact that in the first few pages it is quite confusing, there is literally a chaos of names, places, locations, and whatever else one can imagine. The landscape clears up of course after the first few chapters and you understand perfectly what is happening, but in the beginning, you have lost the ball.
