What defines us and why do we live one life and not another? As time draws to a close, Asle, an elderly painter and widower living alone on the southwestern coast of Norway, reminisces about his life. His only friends are his neighbor, Asleik, a traditional fisherman-farmer, and Beyer, a gallery owner living in the city.
