Description

In a brief period of 14 years, between two world wars, the Bauhaus Art and Design School in Germany changed the way modernity was perceived. With utopian ideas for the future, the school developed a pioneering synthesis of visual arts, crafts, and technology, applying it across various mediums and practices from theater to sculpture and ceramics.

This book was created in collaboration with the Bauhaus-Archiv/Museum für Gestaltung in Berlin, which holds the world's largest collection on the history of Bauhaus. Approximately 550 illustrations, including architectural plans, studies, photographs, sketches, and models, document not only the realized works but also the main principles and personalities of this idealistic creative community through its three successive locations: Weimar, Dessau, and Berlin.

From spontaneous group gymnastics shots to sketches under the guidance of Paul Klee, from extensive architectural plans to an elegant ashtray by Marianne Brandt, the collection is filled with the colors, materials, and geometries that constituted the living experience of Bauhaus as a "total" work of art. Updated on the occasion of the Bauhaus centenary, this work presents a definitive narrative of its energy and rigor, not only as an innovative movement in modernism but also as an exemplar of artistic education, where creative expression and pioneering ideas led to simultaneously functional and beautiful creations.

Included artists are: Josef Albers, Marianne Brandt, Walter Gropius, Gertrud Grunow, Paul Klee, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, and Lilly Reich.

Pages: 400, Publication Year: 2021, Dimensions: 25x25cm.
