In this Grammar, we systematically describe the morphological and syntactic structures of modern Greek, the way in which syntactic functions contribute to the organization of the message, as well as the use (communicative aspect) that the structures, functions, and lexical items exhibit in linguistic practice, that is, in speech and written discourse.
This 'holistic view' (morphology - syntax - communication) is applied, in relation to the Greek language, for the first time in this Grammar. It represents a different conception and another reflection on the issues of language analysis, which lead to a different structure of the Grammar.
Thus, for example, while we treat the noun and the verb separately, since they undoubtedly represent the two main axes of the language's structure, fundamental concepts of communication, such as time, are not examined individually and on occasion, sometimes in the verb, sometimes in temporal clauses, sometimes in adverbials of time, sometimes in nouns, sometimes in prepositions, sometimes in participles, etc., but we address them in a separate chapter, so that the reader can find them gathered together, understand the phenomenon as a whole, and be substantively assisted in their communication.
