The poetry collection "View with a Grain of Sand" by Wislawa Szymborska, with translations by Stanislaw Baraczak and Clare Cavanagh, was published just a few days after the poet was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996. Szymborska, until then almost unknown outside Poland, was established internationally. The simplicity, power, humor, and honesty in her writing, exceptionally captured by her translators, contributed to her recognition. Using a rare combination of moral wisdom and accessible language, she is undoubtedly proven to be one of the greatest poetic figures of our time. In the collection "Poems New and Collected," sixty-four new translations are added to the text of "View with a Grain of Sand," and included as a prologue is the author's Nobel Prize acceptance speech.
