Julio Cortázar is widely known as one of the most important Latin American writers, whose fictional works have marked the history of world literature.
Much less known, however, is his extensive essayistic/critical work, which, apart from its literary perfection, stands out for its high aesthetic value, a fact that has led some scholars to place it among the top examples of the essay as a genre.
This edition includes five texts that condense and develop in the most representative way the theoretical principles of the Argentine writer regarding the two main narrative genres he predominantly served, the short story and the novel, as well as their overall relationship with historical, political, and social reality.
