The Earth is being invaded by a supernatural radiation that turns emotional tears into toxins. Anyone who cries from intense joy or sorrow loses their eyesight. All fundamental principles are shaken and eventually collapse, while the remaining people face memories as a potential threat and live in isolation.
Alice Wonder, a girl born after the radiation, eagerly travels to the Prison – the safest place in the New Age. However, she must first make a stop for the funeral of an unknown woman, her mother. On the train, she meets a mysterious man, Albert, who reveals that he knew her mother since childhood and suggests they share an old, mutual memory.
Alice, although strictly forbidden by law, succumbs to temptation and agrees. Before she knows it, another, better world unveils before her eyes. She is stunned, but very soon realizes she is in danger...
An allegorical novel about memory and submission. A story about what life would be like without memories.
