A small convoy of cars falls into an armed ambush on a rural road in the province of Cauca. The only witness to the carnage is a young boy. Shortly thereafter, at the scene of the clash, all traces have vanished – from the damaged cars and the corpses to the last shell. It’s as if nothing ever happened there.
An anonymous complaint triggers the investigation. A prosecutor, a daring journalist, and her assistant seek the truth at any cost. But no mouth opens, and in this area, one of the largest "greenhouses of violence" in Colombia, the perpetrators could be many: dissenters, gangs, the army. Or perhaps the churches, fiercely competing for dominance in today’s Colombia...
A gritty and shocking thriller that accurately captures a country where violence, corruption, and despair take on new and increasingly unexpected forms every day… I remember thinking: this godforsaken country where I had the misfortune to be born is a killing field, a torture chamber, a mechanical press that disembowels peasants, indigenous people, mixed-race individuals, and blacks. That is, the poor. The rich, on the other hand, are gods for that very reason. They inherit fortunes and surnames, don’t give a damn about the country, and devalue it.
Behind the elegant surnames, what is there? A swindler great-grandfather, a murderer great-great-grandfather. Thieves of resources and land. Then I made the decision: I will gun down these bastards with bullets, they’re the only thing they fear and respect, the only thing they listen to. Bullets that pierce the flesh, to make them learn.
