Description & Specifications

In this second volume, key topics related to the biosomatic and psychosocial development of human beings throughout their lifespan are developed. An effort has been made to describe the latest scientific data and to elaborate on new theoretical perspectives in the field of developmental psychology.

Specifically, Chapter 1 examines some of the most important issues related to lifelong development. Definitions and key assumptions of developmental psychology are presented, and some of the fundamental developmental stages of life (adolescence, adulthood, and old age) are explored, along with various topics associated with them. The development of human beings during infancy and childhood is not included in this chapter, as the remaining three chapters address these topics in depth.

Chapter 2 explores the cognitive functions of the infant, cognitive development, and the development of skills during childhood, as well as the acquisition of new skills in adulthood.

Chapter 3 focuses on the psychosocial development of the child, including how attachments are formed, how interpersonal relationships and friendships are shaped, how opinions about other people are formed, and finally, how moral values and principles are developed.

Chapter 4 discusses the mechanisms of development and certain aspects of the child's social development (play and the formation of gender identity). Finally, it describes theories that attempt to explain the acquisition of language by the child.

As in the previous volume, the discussion of topics in this one is enriched with examples, research data, and references to critical viewpoints, in order to present a comprehensive picture of existing knowledge.
