Description

In July 2021, director Philipp Koutsaftis honored me with one of the greatest privileges of my life when he invited me to contribute to the writings for his film titled Zakros.

In July (and especially in August) 2022, when the final editing was about halfway through, I took advantage of a few days' break and wrote this book, a narrative essay which I will now describe as follows, something like a teaser, in hopes of attracting the reader's interest: it is a work diary from the last shootings, the drafting of texts, and the adventure of the editing process.

It is also an attempt to reflect on Koutsaftis' way, as it is manifested throughout his body of work, with Zakros as the central example, and with references to several important filmmakers, who I believe illuminate my argument.

But it is also a love confession / declaration of faith in the art of cinema in general. It might be other things as well. However, I hope that all of this is primarily my way of saying thank you to the director for the gifts.
