The cheapest energy is the one that was never consumed. Energy savings represent the largest, inexhaustible, and underutilized energy reservoir in our country.
There are also sources and potentials for new wealth that have remained untapped for decades. For the first time in the post-dictatorship history of the country, there is both the stable will and public policies for energy and mineral wealth to become catalysts for national economic restoration and development.
Our country ranks among the highest in energy dependency on oil, with 56% in primary energy consumption, compared to just 40% of the EU average. We pay more than 11-12 billion euros each year for the import and supply of all kinds of petroleum products.
With our strategy, we ensure energy sufficiency, combat energy poverty, and protect the environment.
After 15 years of stagnation and inactivity, we have established the Public Entity for Research and Exploitation of Hydrocarbons, and we are promoting tenders for seismic research in the Ionian Sea and southern Crete, as well as for the concession of three blocks in Patras Gulf, Ioannina, and Katakolo.
Energy requires synergy. Energy and Mineral Wealth can make us key players again with vision, planning, and determination. However, we always need to maintain the right measure. Our homeland no longer needs new myths.
