Description

The 4th edition of the pocket collection "Maritime Law" emphasizes the following two points:

• first, it focuses on the main legislative texts of national and international maritime law, which not only constitute the largest part of university teaching on the subject but also serve as the reference framework for Greek jurisprudence;

• second, specifically the texts of international uniform law are presented in (unofficial) codified form.

The section on national legislation includes: The new KIN (Law 5020/2023, as amended by Law 5039/2023), the special provisions governing the registration and status of ships as foreign capital, and Law 959/79 on shipping companies.

International conventions occupy a central position in the collection: on the one hand, because they progressively cover an increasing part of Greek law (our country has shown increased sensitivity in ratifying international maritime conventions in recent years), and on the other hand, because they regulate pillar institutions in the maritime field. International conventions are thematically categorized, from the broader to the more specific: maritime transport, limitation of liability, pollution, conservatory attachment, maritime assistance and collision, seafarers' labor.

Since the majority of these have been repeatedly amended by Protocols, their presentation is in codified form, so that the reader has at hand the entirety of the provisions in force. They are accompanied, where necessary, by relevant Union regulations (e.g., Regulation 392/2009, for the carriage of passengers, Presidential Decree 6/2012 for insurance for maritime claims). Specifically, the Rotterdam Rules (which have not been ratified by Greece) are provided in Greek translation. The HNS Convention, which has not yet entered into force, is included in the English version.

The work aims to comprehensively meet the educational needs of the subject at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and to better serve the research inquiries of legal practitioners.
