Description

The great man knows when and where he is small. The little man does not know that he is small and is afraid to find out.

The psychoanalyst Wilhelm Reich saw within the everyday person - the one we label as average, common opinion - the remnants of fascist ideology and totalitarianism.

The person who is oppressed, who does not take responsibility, who does not judge the wrongs, who does not participate in collectives can behave even more harshly and abuse power when they gain strength.

The author who was hunted and imprisoned for his ideas critiques the average neurotic person for the smallness and passivity with which they handle all critical human issues in this book.

  • Type: Philosophical, Psychological essay.
  • Atmosphere: The book has a direct and intense tone, prompting the reader to reflect on human nature and social responsibility.
  • In the book you will meet

    • The human weakness in the face of fascist ideologies.
    • The internal conflict of the individual with themselves and society.
    • The relationship of the individual with authority and their personal value.

Wilhelm Reich (1897-1957) was a radical psychoanalyst and a student of Freud, who extended his ideas from psychoanalysis to politics and sociology. He was born in Galicia and served in World War I before studying medicine. He developed his own theories on "neurosis" and "orgone," a form of bioenergy. Due to his unconventional ideas and political activism, he was forced to wander through Europe and eventually settled in the United States. He clashed with the authorities and the pharmaceutical industry, resulting in his imprisonment and death in a federal penitentiary. Many of his ideas, such as the right to sexual freedom, are now widely recognized.

The monologue of a megalomaniac who shakes his finger at the world that did not recognize his genius. Read his biography on Wikipedia and you will understand. Pompous and boring. I gave up after a few pages. Others have written it better, before and after him.

At best mediocre. On one hand, the writing style that essentially "shouts" at you was nice, but the themes and how the author mixes all their opinions together instead of focusing on one and then continuing made me lose interest (of course, this is my personal opinion). Perhaps it is worth it for some readers who want a heavy self-critique and are afraid to do it themselves. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't say don't read it either.

A very good self-criticism manual... I was greatly impressed by the way it is written... It grabs you from the first pages and essentially presents how wrong we behave and think in our everyday lives... I consider it highly valuable and worth a read because I believe it can only change us for the better as human beings...

A relatively small but very powerful book. It speaks to you (or rather, shouts) in your face. It addresses all the things we do wrong and refuse to accept and correct. From fascism to our everyday interactions with other people.
The edition is hardcover with high-quality paper
