Hold on tight to your broomstick for a wonderful color edition in paper of the Worst Witch! Written and illustrated by Jill Murphy at the age of just sixteen, the mishap-prone Mildred Hubble - Miss Cackle's Academy's worst witch - has been casting her spell for over forty years, enchanting millions of young readers. In this special edition, Jill Murphy has reproduced her original illustrations in striking color and has written a special letter to her readers.
Mildred Hubble is a trainee at Miss Cackle's Academy for Witches, but she's doing very badly. She constantly makes mistakes with her spells and crashes her broomstick. And when she turns Ethel, the teacher's favorite, into her worst enemy, chaos ensues...
Jill Murphy was born in London in 1949. From a very young age, she began drawing and writing stories, and due to her creativity, she was already making books (literally, with a stapler) by the age of six. She studied at the Chelsea, Croydon, and Camberwell art schools. She worked in a children's home for four years and as a nanny for one year before becoming a freelance writer and illustrator. The Worst Witch stories, of which this is the first, are some of Puffin's most successful titles.
