The History of Modern Greek Theater by Giannis Sideris is the most important source of information on the evolution of modern Greek theater.
The first volume, published in 1951, covers the period 1794-1908 and represents the most responsible record of theatrical events for this time.
It is being reissued today as part of an effort by the Museum and Center for the Study of Greek Theater, carried out with the valuable collaboration of Kastaniotis Publications.
The republication was deemed necessary to supplement the original text with corrections made by the author himself, with additions and notes considered essential, as well as with detailed indexes that make the study of the work easier.
The enrichment of the edition with rare photographs, originating from the archive of the Museum and Center for the Study of Greek Theater, adds an additional element of interest.
The continuation of the HISTORY will follow - covering the period 1909-1944 - based on the unpublished manuscripts of Giannis Sideris, which are preserved at the Museum and Center for the Study of Greek Theater, also richly illustrated.
