It suctions onto the breast and essentially collects milk. It doesn't work like manual or electric breast pumps. It can be used simultaneously with breastfeeding, on the breast where the baby is not nursing, or to collect a little milk and relieve breast congestion. It takes practice to position it, and for that reason, I deducted one star as I managed to put it on after several attempts. It is very easy to clean and sterilize. For its price, I recommend it!
