Description

The favorite feel-good book. Translated into more than 40 languages. Sold over 9 million copies worldwide. Now available in a unique collectible edition with a hardcover.

“Between life and death, there is a library,” he said. “And within that library, the shelves go on forever. Every book gives you a chance to try another life you could have lived. To see how things could have been if you had made different choices… Would you have done something different if you had the opportunity to undo the things you regret?”

Nora's life is going from bad to worse. Then, on her last day on Earth, when midnight strikes, she is transported to a library. There, she is given the opportunity to undo choices and free herself from her regrets by trying all the different lives she could have lived.

The haunting question that arises, however, is: If you have infinite alternatives, what is the best way to live?

Read an excerpt

Nineteen years before she made the decision to die, Nora Seed was sitting in the warmth of the small library at Hazeldene School, in the town of Bedford. She had her eyes fixed on a chessboard on a low table.

“Nora, my dear, it’s natural to worry about your future,” said the librarian, Mrs. Elm, her eyes shining like sunlight on frost. Mrs. Elm made her first move. A knight jumped over the neatly lined-up white pawns. “It’s natural to worry about exams. But you could be anything you want, Nora. Just think of all those possibilities. It’s exciting.”

“Yes. I suppose it is.” “A whole life ahead of you.” “A whole life.” “You could do anything, live anywhere. Somewhere with a little less cold and damp.” Nora pushed a pawn two squares forward. It was hard not to compare Mrs. Elm to her mother, who treated Nora like a mistake that needed correcting.

  • This review is about the cover: Soft

A beautiful and tender book, with an original and very interesting theme: the idea that you can see how your life would have turned out if you had made different choices. I liked the way the author talks about sorrow, regret, and the meaning of life, without becoming heavy or pessimistic.

Although at some points it becomes somewhat repetitive, the story remains moving and substantial. It is a book that is easy to read, but also leaves something behind—a sense of comfort and a reminder that life, even with its mistakes and weaknesses, has value.

It is worth reading, especially when you are in a period where you are searching for answers or a little hope.

I have read 2/3 of the book so far. It is extremely interesting. I give it 4 stars until I finish reading to have a complete picture. If it remains this way until the end, I will add a 5th star.

So, my book was given to me as a gift for my birthday... towards the end of November! I wouldn't call myself a bookworm, but there have been times when I picked up a book and finished it in one day! This particular one was an exercise in patience and perseverance for me!

I had it in my hands from the first few days and literally finished it one year later! The only reason I finished it was because I trusted the choices in books of the person who gave it to me... and every time I finished a page... I would say, "No way, I'll finish you to see if you're as good as they told me you are!" And somehow, one year later, I finished it... and honestly... I felt what it means to waste time!! Of course, this is purely subjective! If you're the type who vomits butterflies with so much imagination, romance, and saccharine sweetness, DO NOT get it!

    That's it!!

I bought it because of very good reviews from others, but personally it disappointed me.
Almost from the beginning, you know what will happen in the end and what messages it wants to convey to you.
If it becomes a movie, I believe it will be better because of the visuals.
It didn't give me something like a book...

  • A beautiful and tender book, with an original and very interesting theme: the idea that you can see how your life would have turned out if you had made different choices. I liked the way the author talks about sorrow, regret, and the meaning of life, without becoming heavy or pessimistic.

  • A beautiful book, with nice messages for relaxed reading. The beginning disappoints-saddens you a little, but the ending leaves you with a beautiful sweet taste.

  • So, my book was given to me as a gift for my birthday... towards the end of November!

    That's it!!

  • Quite a good book, with an original theme. Of course, it repeats some things constantly, but it's worth reading!
