Description

Description

Once upon a time, there was an Apple Tree that loved a little boy very much. This is how one of the classic illustrated stories begins, written by Shel Silverstein. The Giving Tree is perhaps the most famous work of the author and it is available in a collectible edition and in a new translation by Angelos Angelidis - Maria Angelidou. The story refers to the relationship between an apple tree and a child throughout their lives. When the child is small, he visits the tree daily, swings on its branches, and rests in its shade. However, as he grows older, he asks more and more from it while spending less and less time with it. Every day the boy visited her, collected her apples, climbed her trunk, and swung on her branches. And the Tree was happy. An allegory with multiple meanings for readers of all ages. The classic and beloved book of the author continues to move both young and old, composing an ode to selflessness, but it also constitutes a tender allegory for life that completes its cycle.

"Once there was an Apple Tree,
that loved a little boy very much".

Thus begins one of the most classic illustrated stories, written by Shel Silverstein. Every day the boy would visit, gather her apples, climb her trunk, swing from her branches. And the Apple Tree was happy... As the boy grew older, he kept asking for more and more, again and again...
And the tree gave, gave and gave... and its heart was glad.
An allegory with multiple meanings for readers of all ages.

  • I would recommend it for purchase
  • Was it interesting enough?
  • I would choose a book by the same author
  • It is my little nephew's favorite... I disagree with the comment that the moral is about ingratitude and that it will have a bad impact on the child. Children have discernment; some stories (like this one) work in a reverse way—instead of showing you only the good, they also present the nature of evil so that you can criticize it and avoid it in your life. When I asked my child, he replied that what the child in the story did to the tree was not right. Children understand everything, do not underestimate them.

  • This book conveys the message "become spoiled, ungrateful, and drain your mother dry!". Just tragic and I am very sorry to see such good reviews. I understand the mothers who are emotionally charged by reading it, but the book and its message are intended for the children, not for themselves, so anyone who wants to buy it should think about whether this is the message they want to pass on to their child.
