Description

This volume collects thirty-three texts from the public interventions of the great Nobel laureate author. His reputation as a creator and his prestige as an intellectual had made his views highly sought after everywhere. The rebellious Albert Camus places himself at the center of the absurd, simultaneously recognizing both our common fate and the individual freedom of each person.

Moving with moral consistency from one issue to another, he expresses and clarifies a commitment aimed at restoring voice, face, and dignity to those who have been deprived of them due to half a century of uproar and anger. At the same time, he addresses the incorrect use of words and the exaggeration of ideas that have transformed man into a wolf against his own self.

There is a "Crisis of Man." Camus records and explains it, systematically articulating its causes and symptoms. He knows that what is at stake is civilization and the sense of brotherhood that unites people in their struggle against their fate. "I prefer committed men to committed literatures. Courage in life and talent in work is no small thing," he wrote in his Notebooks.

For if nothing is true or false, if nothing is good or bad, and if the only value is effectiveness, then the rule will be that you must prove you are the most effective, that is, the most powerful. The world is no longer divided into just and unjust people, but into masters and slaves. He who is right is he who enslaves.

So look at the things around you, and see if they are not still true. We are exhausted by violence, and it drowns us. Whether in nations or in the world, distrust, resentment, greed, and the struggle for power now weave a dark and desperate universe where every person is forced to live in the present, and the word "future" in itself symbolizes for them anxiety in all its forms; surrendered to abstract forces; weak and worn out by a tumultuous life; far from natural truths, peaceful pursuits, simple happiness.
