Description

Schumann's "Advice to Young Musicians" was written with sensitivity, care, and interest. These thoughts were published in 1850 and became famous - and have been reissued, commented upon, interpreted... expanded, and supplemented ever since.

I decided to use this powerful work of such a great creator as Schumann as the foundation to build a new text useful for music students. I hope the great humility I feel towards Schumann is evident in my writing.

Based on his thoughts, I have tried both to describe how I perceive his advice and recommendations, and how I could today, through my own interpretation, extend the topics and challenges with additional reasoning.

Schumann's advice is not just a reason or a simple thematic code. It is something more: I always feel like a student, and reading advice from such a great and iconic creator, I cannot help but internally "chew" on this knowledge and experience, out of fear that I might not be able to be useful to my own student.
