The chestnut tree, a species particularly widespread throughout the mountainous region of Greece, is considered an important beekeeping plant due to the exceptional quality of its pollen and the high nutritional value of the nectar it produces.

Chestnut honey is a unique variety of honey, because although it belongs to the floral honeys, it has characteristics of honeydew honey. The rich sugar content of the honeydew comes from both the nectar of the chestnut tree and from the honeydew excretions produced by aphids that settle on the underside of the tree's leaves.

Its taste is intense, with a slightly bitter aftertaste that lingers persistently, complementing the strong impression created by its aroma.

Chestnut honey can remain in liquid form without crystallizing for a long time (1-2 years) due to its high fructose content and low glucose levels.

The high nutritional value of chestnut honey lies in its richness in trace elements and amino acids, such as potassium, magnesium, manganese, and barium, as well as tannins which act as antioxidants and boost the immune system.
