Description

September 1, 1939 - September 2, 1945. World War II: six years and one day that marked humanity. Imagine Europe as a theater stage. On this vast stage, a terrifying performance unfolded, filled with horror, hunger, death, displacements, anguish, and despair.

Horrific! However, the play was not a figment of imagination. Many known and unknown writers penned it, while the actors were also both familiar and unfamiliar. Year by year, the events will be unraveled within the pages of the book through documents, testimonies, and the words of those who suffered the calamities of that war.

We are lucky that we did not experience it! However, hundreds of millions of Europeans lived through it: ordinary citizens, soldiers, resistors, intellectuals, persecuted individuals, politicians, children, and adults, our own. The history of World War II was written in many languages!

Read an excerpt

A Serbian nationalist assassinates the heir to the Austrian throne in Sarajevo, Bosnia. The following month, in July, Austria-Hungary attacks Serbia, and soon a chain of conflicts begins, leading to a devastating war that surpasses the borders of our continent. This is the trigger. However, at its core, there are many causes: European peoples seek to create their own national states, and the great industrial nations want to expand beyond their borders, at the expense of other countries. At the same time, military values are emphasized, and many support the importance of war for resolving international disputes.
