However, soon the viewers also learn about an Arena, about public beheadings of girls in live television coverage, about a boy polishing his axe, about the scent of pine that wafts through the freshly washed clothes. What does Evolution ultimately mean? And how can an axe that falls be kindness? What blood do the clothes in the laundromat cleanse? A dystopian thriller about the prevailing Eugenics – and the crimes of good people who wait patiently for their laundry to finish. This is the 32nd work from the author of Mengele and Lebensraum.

Author's Note: “Written during the lockdown of Covid19, ‘The Laundromat’ began from a fundamental question that has troubled me for many years: How the good enlightened person of the West becomes the receiver and ultimately the bearer of the worst evil: eugenic murder. Once, after many failed attempts, a condition emerged in my mind: Two good women, two mothers, in a public laundromat – two women waiting to wash their clothes of blood. Around them, a scent of pine will spread. Immediately, everything formed, the entire work: the Public Beheadings of girls, Mo's axe, the Arena, the Law, Evolution, the noise that the Earth makes when it turns, the people who get used to everything.
