Author Biography
Herman Hesse
Herman Hesse was born in 1877 in Calw, Württemberg, a small town in the Black Forest. He made his literary debut in 1899 with the poetry collection "Romantic Songs" and the prose collection "One Hour After Midnight".
Numerous works followed, establishing him as one of the most popular authors of the 20th century: "Peter Camenzind" (1904), "Beneath the Wheel" (1906), "Gertrude" (1910), "Demian" (1914), "Siddhartha" (1927), "Steppenwolf" (1927), "Narcissus and Goldmund" (1930), "Journey to the East" (1932), among others. He was the founder of the magazine "Vinos Voco", a member of the Prussian Academy, an honorary doctorate from the University of Bern, and was awarded many prizes, including the Nobel Prize in 1946, and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade in 1955. He died in 1962.
