Description & Specifications

This book on the Cyprus issue is presented in the form of questions and answers to make it more comprehensible for the reader (and useful for commentators and handlers of the Cyprus issue). One of the main problems, in relation to Cyprus, in Greece and to some extent in the Republic of Cyprus, is the misconceptions about the history of the Cyprus issue that have led to various myths.

The main reason for these stereotypes is the ethnocentrism and nationalism of both Greeks and Greek Cypriots. This work has three objectives. First, to present the main aspects of this endless conflict to illustrate how and why the Cyprus issue has become increasingly complicated and remains unresolved, while in several historical moments logical and fair solutions were evident; specifically in 1973-1974, 1986, 2002-2004, 2009-2010, and 2016-2017.

Second, to critically examine the national narrative in Greece and the Republic of Cyprus, which is limited to the glorification and heroization of what happened in Cyprus concerning their share, alongside the demonization of Turkey, Turkish Cypriots, and foreign factors. The third objective is to achieve a more sober assessment of the situation through self-awareness and introspection.

Only by shedding ample light on what truly happened in Cyprus and to the extent that we do not hesitate to identify the heavy responsibilities of each side for what has occurred, will the perimeter of a peaceful and viable solution be evident and how this can be realized, thus ensuring that the Cyprus issue will no longer be synonymous with the concept of an unresolved conflict.
