The book "The Power of Art in Learning: Pedagogical Methodology for Adult Education and Schools," which has just been released, was published two years ago in English by the international publishing house Brill Sense. The book, a product of 20 years of work, summarizes the author's research and pedagogical perspective on utilizing works of art as learning resources within educational practice.
In the first part, the key theoretical views on how reflective engagement with works of art has the power to inspire learning and give it meaning and substance are examined.
In the second part, the teaching method "Transformative Learning through Aesthetic Experience" is presented, which aims to make learning creative, enjoyable, critical, and outside the "box" of stereotypical perceptions. Examples of application in schools and adult education organizations are analyzed. The method serves as a comprehensive "roadmap" for the utilization of works from the visual arts, literature, cinema, music, and dance in the daily educational practice of all subjects without exception.
Through this lens, Alexios Kokkos's new book extends research, interpretation, and methodology the study "Art in School" (ed. diaNEOsis), which he recently edited.
