The book examines the role of university authorities, professors, and student groups in the formation of the new hegemonic ideology following the collapse of the Great Idea in 1922, namely the ideology of nationalism, with its key components being Greek Christian ethics, the promotion of national traditions, and anti-communism.

At the same time, aspects of the political-social and university environment are highlighted, while the actions of individuals and groups that acted supportively or punitively in cases of deviations from the dominant narrative are illuminated.

In this context, the actions of opposing student organizations are also mentioned, while the practices of the state, other entities in the public sphere, and university authorities toward members of the academic community who challenged the hegemonic ideology and were thus considered a threat to the social order and academic discipline are analyzed.

The conclusion drawn by the sources confirms the assessment that the rumored progressive identity of the University of Thessaloniki does not fully correspond to reality. Unfortunately, once again it is proven that the shadow of several professors was larger than their actual stature, as they typically acted as servants of political power and willing advocates of their conservative beliefs or personal obsessions and interests.
